Acing Interviews - tips from the Enterprise team Each month, we host an online workshop for our ambassador and mentee community - a chance for our amazing supporters, partners, and mentors to share knowledge and skills with the girls we work with. These events are hosted by our ambassadors, giving them valuable experience in facilitation and moderation that they can add to their CVs. In this blog, Terain shares an account of a recent workshop with our partners at Enterprise, focused on helping girls prepare for interviews. You can watch the workshop in full at the end of this page. Hosting my first virtual workshop Hey everyone, I’m Terain! I’ve been part of The Girls’ Network for a while now, starting as a mentee in their amazing mentoring program, and now I’m proud to be an Ambassador. Recently, I hosted my first-ever virtual workshop. For those who don’t know, the Ambassador Community is made up of young people aged 14 and up who’ve completed the mentoring program. We get to be part of monthly workshops, like the one I hosted, all thanks to our incredible partners like Enterprise Mobility. These workshops are designed to help us build essential skills, get real-world careers advice, and connect with professionals across different industries. Last year I attended the Enterprise Careers Day in November 2024, you read about it here. We also have access to some cool opportunities - like the chance to visit 10 Downing Street, meet MPs, and chat with industry experts. Everything is flexible. We can join in based on what interests us or what we feel we need to work on the most. The 'Acing Interviews' workshop with Enterprise The Girls’ Network virtual workshops begin with our Ambassador Community Lead, Rabina, she ensures the young attendees feel comfortable, explains the housekeeping details, and covers safeguarding rules. After that, it's over to me! I introduced myself to the young people and let them know that there's also an opportunity to ask questions throughout the session. During the workshop, we covered: How to answer tricky interview questionsWe all know interviews can be nerve-wracking, especially when the questions seem impossible to answer. I learned how to break down tricky questions and respond confidently using the STAR technique, which stands for Situation, Task, Action, and Result. It’s a great way to structure your answers and ensure you’re giving clear, detailed responses. Tips for presenting yourself effectivelyWe discussed how to show up as your best self in an interview - whether it’s in person or virtual. Presenting yourself well isn’t just about your appearance; it’s about how you communicate, how you carry yourself, and how you make a connection with the person on the other side of the table. Making a great first impressionFirst impressions matter, and we covered how to start strong from the moment the interview begins. From your handshake to your opening words, we went through how to establish a positive connection right off the bat. What I learned and why it’s important It’s not just about answering questions—it’s about building confidence, finding ways to build your responses to the job, and leaving a lasting impression. The most important thing I took away? The more prepared you are, the more confident you’ll feel. And with the right preparation, you can turn a nerve-wracking interview into an opportunity to show just how much you have to offer. Here are a few questions that have come through from workshop attendees. How would you answer those weakness based questions without making yourself look bad? What are the most common questions asked in interviews, and how should we answer them? How can we make a good first impression when we walk into the interview room? What should we do if we don’t know the answer to a question during the interview? What would you say to your younger self when going for the first job interview or a university or a placement? Building my confidence and CV Hosting the workshop didn’t just help me learn new things—it also boosted my confidence. Speaking to a screen full of people in front of a group, sharing what I’ve learned, and guiding others through the process really pushed me out of my comfort zone. I can now add this experience to my CV, showing that I have developing skills in leadership and communication. Plus, it’s made me even more excited to take on future opportunities and continue developing professionally. What’s next? If you’re interested in these kinds of sessions, I highly encourage you to check out the Ambassador Community and see how you can get involved. The next step for me is to keep pushing myself to learn, grow, and support others on their journey. And if you’re preparing for interviews, I hope you can use some of these tips to crush it! A few words from our amazing supporters at Enterprise: I have thoroughly enjoyed leading the Careers Insight workshops on interview skills and CV building, as they have provided a valuable platform to support students in enhancing their employability. Delivering these sessions has been particularly rewarding, as I have been able to share practical advice, industry insights, and best practices to help students build confidence in their applications and interview techniques. It has been incredibly fulfilling to see participants leave with a clearer understanding of how to effectively present themselves to potential employers, equipping them with the skills needed to take the next step in their careers. Louise Taylor - Talent Acquisition Manager, Enterpise During my internship at Enterprise Mobility, attending and aiding in the organisation of the Careers Insights workshops has been extremely rewarding, especially being able to share my own experiences in navigating interviews and building my CV to others from the perspective of a current student. Omachi Achinivu - Intern Human Resources, Enterprise Watch the workshop here: Huge thanks to our partners at Enterprise for their ongoing support of our Ambassador Community, to Louise and Omachi for this brilliant workshop and to Terain for her expert hosting and for creating this brilliant overview.
